PORTSMOUTH, Va. - The Coast Guard and partner agencies have located the pilot who was reported missing after an airplane crash near Manteo in Dare County.
Dare County dispatch contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector, N.C., at approximately 1 p.m. Sunday, reporting a twin-engine airplane from Dare County regional airport crashed after take-off.
The Coast Guard launched crews aboard a 25-foot response boat Station Oregon Inlet and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C.
Dare County responders recovered a female passenger and brought her to shore where local emergency medical services personnel took her to a hospital. The body of the pilot was found Monday morning.
