CRAVEN COUNTY - The following is a news release:
Timothy S. Downs has been named as Craven County's new economic development director.
The Economic Development Director is responsible for implementing economic development initiative,s including recruiting new businesses, working to expand existing businesses, and developing a strong, sustainable economic development program.
Downs currently serves as deputy director and attorney in the Office of Economic Development for the City of Dayton, Ohio.
Downs has more than four years of experience in economic development in Dayton, where he managed a staff of 10, a $1.15 million annual operating budget and a $3 million annual development fund. Downs' efforts resulted in more than 1,500 new jobs and $70 million in private investment.
Downs also has experience working in a city with military presence as Dayton, Ohio is in close proximity to Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
Downs graduated from N.C. State and got his law degree from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
Craven County Manager Jack Veit stated, "We are very excited to add Timothy to our Craven County team. He has a tremendous background in economic development and has the skill set and knowledge we were looking for in a new economic development director."
Downs was selected from a field of over 45 candidates in a nationwide search Craven County conducted to fill this position.
Downs will begin work as Craven County's economic development director on August 7, 2013, with an annual salary of $93,061.
