An earthquake hit near Kinston Monday morning, officials said.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 2.1 magnitude earthquake occurred at 7:04 a.m. The epicenter was reportedly 8 miles SSW from Kinston, the group said. The quake's exact location was at 35.151°N, 77.641°W.
Earthquakes are measured by the Richter Scale, going from magnitudes of 1 to 10. A 2.1 magnitude quake means it was felt slightly by some people, and caused no damage to buildings.
