NEW BERN, CRAVEN COUNTY -

Police said they are investigating a report of an armed robbery at an apartment complex in New Bern.

According to Lt. Rhona Allen of the New Bern Police Department, the incident happened at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Tryon Estates on the 300 block of Simmons Street.

Allen said a man told officers he was weeding in a ditch when he was approached by a "chubby " black male with a red book bag, who asked for a cigarette. The suspect then reportedly pulled out a gun and robbed the victim, Allen said.

The robber rode his bicycle in the direction of the New Bern Walmart, Allen told NewsChannel 12. The victim's wallet was found a short distance away from the scene, but a small amount of cash was missing.

No arrest has been made. Anyone with information is asked to call New Bern Police at 252-672-4100.
