New Bern officials warn residents of utility scam

NEW BERN, CRAVEN COUNTY - The City of New Bern is warning residents of a scam targeting utility customers.

According to the city's Facebook page, several commercial utility customers have received phone calls from a group claiming to be Duke Power. The calls threatened the customers to pay their utility bills in one hour or their utilities would be disconnected.

The caller left an 800 number for payment. This is a fraudulent scheme to solicit money, the City of New Bern stated. Customers are urged not to send any money.
