GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY - Greenville police said four men, one of them armed, forced their way into an apartment Friday morning. According to neighbors, three people were in the home at the time, and one of the victims is pregnant.
The incident happened just before 1 a.m. Friday at Rosemont Apartments on Rosemont Drive in Greenville, investigators said.
Neighbors said the intruders entered the home while shouting someone's name. But that person wasn't there. Neighbors said that person was the intended target.
"I heard a bunch of banging and it kind of startled me and all, but all I thought was maybe my neighbors were getting a little rowdy," said Ric Bowen, who lives next door to the victims.
Friends said the pregnant woman opened the door after she heard a knock. That was when the intruders entered the apartment.
"[She] has got a bruise on her head from where they bashed her in the head with the door," said Bowen.
"What's scariest about this whole situation [is] they could've easily gone for anyone by mistake. It's just really sad that it happened to them," said Cullen O'Brien, a neighbor and friend of the victims. "In no way did they bring this on themselves. So from that standpoint, it's very disturbing. It makes you question how safe you really are. We're actually talking about possibly finding somewhere else to live. Somewhere safe."
"[My girlfriend] wants to possibly move to a different apartment because she's like, 'what if they come back?'" said Bowen.
Friends said the intruders made off with some cell phones, an Xbox and a television. Investigators describe the suspects as four black males. Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to call the Greenville Police Department at 252-329-4315.
