Officials have released the name of the man shot to death by campus police at North Carolina Central University in Durham.
Officials said Wednesday that the victim was 22-year-old Tracy Daquan Bost of Charlotte.
Officials say he was not a student.
Investigators say Bost was being pursued by Durham police investigating a break-in late Monday when he entered the school campus. Investigators say he exchanged gunfire with campus officers and was killed.
Three campus police officers have been placed on administrative leave while the State Bureau of Investigation reviews the shooting.
Police at North Carolina Central University in Durham say a gunman has been shot and killed near the southeast part of the campus.
Durham Police had tracked a suspect thought to be armed onto the campus late Monday, prompting officials to lock down the school at about 10:15 p.m.
Police say the man was found in some woods shortly before midnight. Campus Police Chief Tim Bellamy said the man challenged officers with a gun and they fired.
The man's name has not been released and police say the gunman was not a student.
The lockdown was lifted shortly after 1 a.m. and the State Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case.
Classes in the School of Education are being relocated Tuesday.
