About 125 Marines and 25 wounded warriors are joining forces with local volunteers to sponsor a basketball-themed event for some 250 special athletes.
The Marines say Friday's scheduled program begins at 9:30 a.m. with an individual skills competition that includes spot shots, dribbling and passing.
More than 20 delegations of athletes will compete in the event. Awards are to be presented at 11 a.m.
The mission of the group Special Olympics Onslow County is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
