A Raleigh couple has pledged $10 million to a Texas medical center where the husband was treated for cancer.
A statement released earlier this month said Charles and Daneen Stiefel will give the money to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where Charles Daneen was treated starting in 2007. He credits the center and its staff with saving his life.
Charles Stiefel is the former chairman and CEO of Stiefel Laboratories, a dermatology company that moved its research headquarters to Research Triangle Park in 2006. The company was bought by GlaxoSmithKline in 2009 for $2.9 billion.
The head and neck cancer center at MD Anderson will be renamed for Charles and Daneen Stiefel. The couple donated $1 million to MD Anderson in 2009.
