GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY -

People in more than 20 communities gathered in Greenville to meet their local law enforcement and take a stance on crime.

The Greenville Police Department has been involved in National Night Out events since 2006. However, this is only the second year officers have gone out into the community and held separate events in different neighborhoods.

Chief Hassan Aden said the events symbolize the beginning of a new year for the police department.

"I think it's helped spread the message out. All of our communities are slightly different and you know by going into the individual neighborhoods and introducing them to their officers it just creates a strong bond," he said.

There were 22 events in total held Tuesday evening. On top of the different community events, there was also a gathering held at the Five Points Plaza. Folks enjoyed food vendors, live music and games for the children.
