Thieves steal nearly $400K worth of walnuts
Price of walnuts has more than tripled in recent years
Thieves recently made off with a shipment of walnuts valued at nearly $400,000.
Authorities in Escalon, Calif. say this theft, estimated to be about 140,000 pounds, is one of the biggest nut heists in history, reported The Associated Press.
The thieves cut through the fence of a large facility and made off with several truckloads of walnuts. Authorities say rising prices is what appears to be driving the rash of recent thefts, which have prompted walnut orchard-owners to implement more security measures.
