1836: Charles Darwin returns to England after five years of acquiring knowledge around the world about fauna, flora, wildlife and geology aboard the HMS Beagle. He would use the information to develop his "theory of evolution," which he detailed in his 1859 book "The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection."
