(CNN) -- Continuing to strengthen, Hurricane Sandy made landfall in southeastern Cuba early Thursday as a strong Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained mph winds of 110 mph and gusts up to 115 mph, the National Hurricane Center in Miami reports.
