Carteret County - Five live concerts are set to take the stage this weekend at the Swansboro Mullet Festival. The festival is completely free and will feature live music, several vendors, and fried mullet and flounder.
"The entire festival is put on completely by volunteers! I can't stress how grateful we are to them," said Mullet Festival President, Linwood Hood.
The city is prepped and ready to shut down to host the event. A parade will kick off the celebrations at 9am on Saturday. Locals say the Mullet Festival is more than just a weekend of fun, it is a reunion. Every year, Swansboro natives make the journey back to Onslow County to enjoy the festivities.
"We've got several class reunions this weekend. Everyone comes back for the festival," said Hood.
Entertainment chair, Nancee Allen says every year newcomers mistake mullet as being a hair cut, rather than a fish.
"No it is not a hair cut. Even Ms. North Carolina several years ago thought she was coming to a haircut festival," said Allen.
Marines will be volunteering all week long. They will be cooking the fish for the festival. Profits from the fish fry will be going to the rotary club, which will then go to charity.
The town will be bustling with entertainment and food all weekend. For details on the festival click here.
