Military family celebrates New Year baby

NEW BERN, CRAVEN COUNTY - An Onslow County couple has their first child minutes into the New Year.

Baby Adrian James Padron III is the first baby of the new year born at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern. Baby Adrian was born at 12:13 a.m. after almost 30 hours of labor.

The first time parents, Faith and Adrian Padron II, are both in the Marine Corps.

The child's father, Adrian, said he was hoping the baby would wait to be born in 2014.

"I was whispering to him hold on. Faith was telling me to shut up and let him be born when he wants too," Adrian said.

Faith is stationed at MCAS New River and Adrian II is stationed at Camp Lejeune.

Adrian said he only has a little time to spend with his new son because he will be deployed next month.

"Its a little sad because I just have a new born son and I want to spend as much time with him as I can. It's going to be hard to leave him and my wife back home while I'm gone for 8 months," Adrian said.

Padron said he is planning on recording audio book so his son can listen to them while he is deployed.

The Padron family is receiving a gift basket and other presents for having the first baby at Carolina East Medical Center.

At least nine babies have born as of Wednesday afternoon at area hospitals.
