M.C.A.S. NEW RIVER, JACKSONVILLE - About 170 Marines and sailors from Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 167 are returning to Eastern North Carolina after serving seven months in Afghanistan.
Marine Corps spokeswoman 1st Lt. Sarah Burns says the group is scheduled to return to Marine Corps Air Station New River on Thursday.
During the deployment, the unit provided close-air support, medical evacuation escorts and assault support to troops on the ground.
The unit left in May after spending several months preparing for the deployment, which included training at Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms, Calif.
