Drive-by shooting victim identified
Ayden Police identify the victim in Saturday night's drive-by shooting as 23-year-old Darius Brown.
Brown was shot twice, once in the stomach and once in the leg, police said.
Officials said the shooting happened in Ayden just before 10 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Barwick Street and High Street.
Ann Woodard lives right across the street from where the shooting happened.
"Last night when it happened I was in bed and it scared me so bad I jumped down on the floor. I put my clothes on came outside and I saw him lying there in the street," said Woodard.
Ayden Police Chief Barry Stanley said with recent shootings, they've increased patrols in this neighborhood with officers in the area around the clock.
"I had an officer about a block away and heard the shots being fired, but by the time she could get turned around the suspect vehicles was gone," said Stanley
Less than a month ago another shooting happened just one door down, at the US Mini Mart on Lee Drive. Stanley said he doesn't think the two shootings are related but he isn't ruling out anything.
Woodard said in the 12 years she's lived here, more crime has happened lately than ever before and she is considering moving out.
"It’s sad that so much stuff is going on around here," she said.
Stanley said Brown is in stable condition and recovering at a Greenville hospital.
Police believe the shooting may be gang-related.
Investigators continue to look for the shooter.
Authorities described the car involved as small and dark, possibly black.
