A man has admitted to murdering his father at the victim's Greenville home last year.

Benjamin Shields IV pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Tuesday in the death of his father, 59-year-old Benjamin Shields III. Shields was sentenced to between 10 and 13 years in prison.

According to investigators, Shields shot and killed his father on Oct. 17, 2012 at the victim's home on the 2,000 block of Coleman Drive in Greenville. Police said Shields fled the scene, but turned himself in an hour later. He was 29 years old at the time.

There was no word on an exact motive for the shooting. But the victim's wife, Gwendolyn Dickens Shields, had told police that Banjamin Shields IV had a history of problems with her husband.
