A Greenville man is facing dozens of charges for a spree of car break-ins, investigators said.
Greenville Police arrested 21-year-old Keontae Ward Thursday night. He faces 49 charges for more than 20 car break-ins at The Bellamy Student Apartments and Kittrell Farms, according to investigators. The break-ins began in September.
Police said they were able to identify Ward as the suspect in those break-ins because he was caught on a Food Lion surveillance camera using a stolen check to buy cigarettes and obtain $50 in cash. The check was stolen from a vehicle parked in the Kittrell Farms subdivision.
Ward was booked in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $200,000 secured bond, police said. His 49 charges include multiple counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, obtaining property by false pretense, financial card theft, larceny, and possession of stolen goods.
Ward has an extensive criminal history, including prior vehicle break-ins and larceny, investigators said.
