A Pitt County man allegedly stole copper wiring from at least seven Greenville utility poles.
Charles Lovick Jr., 32 of 803 Bradley Street in Greenville, was arrested on July 11th after Pitt County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call of a local metal recycler saying a customer tried to sell copper ground wire that was cut from utility poles. Originally Lovick Jr., gave falsified reports to officials about where he got the wiring. Later, he admitted to cutting the wires from at least seven utility poles behind the Piggly Wiggly in Greenville.
Lovick Jr. will be formally charged with felony of injuring utility wire/fixtures. Greenville Utilities Commission said there was approximately $500 dollars worth of damage. Poles without ground wiring can damage surrounding buildings and homes.
He was placed under a ten thousand dollar secure bond at the Pitt County Detention Center.
