Local school district cuts teacher assistant jobs
Budget cuts to education under North Carolina's new state budget are already affecting local school districts.
The Craven County school district has announced that it will let go of five teacher assistants, effective August 5th.
The district blames a 21 percent reduction in state funding for teacher assistant positions.
It also projects an additional 19 percent funding reduction for the jobs next year and has put a freeze on all teaching assistant positions.
