RALEIGH - Gov. Roy Cooper's office announced Thursday a snack food company will locate its first production facility in Wayne County.
Stormberg Foods, LLC, which produces meat protein snacks, will bring 60 jobs to Wayne County over three years as part of a move to create the production facility. The company plans to invest $2.48 million into the project.
Stormberg Foods is based out of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The company sells meat-based snacks such as beef jerky, known as biltong. The company distributes the product under several different names.
The new positions will add nearly $1.9 million each year to the local economy, according to Cooper's office.
“North Carolina works hard to attract international companies, and they quickly come to appreciate both our friendly business climate and our warm and welcoming people,” Cooper said. “These new jobs are especially welcome as Wayne County works to recover from the damage of Hurricane Matthew.”
