Goldsboro man arrested, charged with rape after returning to Wayne Co.

Guadalupe Esquivel may have tried to flee to Mexic

GOLDSBORO, Wayne County - A Goldsboro man has been arrested and charged with first degree rape after an incident that happened on July 8.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reported Guadalupe Cruz Esquivel, also known as Ricardo Vazquez Cortes, 36, was arrested on July 13. He has been charged with one count of first degree statutory rape. He was placed in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $500,000 bond.

A report of a victim who had suffered a sexual assault was reported on July 8 at around 10:40 p.m. The incident occurred in a neighborhood off NC Hwy. 111 South. The victim was transported to Wayne UNC Health Care and later released that night.

Detectives began their investigation and later learned Esqivel had fled the area on a white GMC Acadia vehicle with NC license number DKR-9230. A warrant for him was issued and there was news he may have fled or tried to flee to Mexico.

After an extensive search of an area around I-95 South, he was located trying to return to Wayne County. He was followed until he entered Wayne County on U S Hwy. 70, where a traffic stop was conducted on his vehicle in the area of 70 West and Highway 581. He was then arrested.
