More charges levied against Chocowinity town commissioner

GRIMESLAND, Pitt County - Chocowinity town commissioner John Curtis Jenkins Jr. is facing further charges.

NewsChannel 12's Stephanie Brown reports Jenkins is facing a second degree kidnapping charge. That has upped his bond total to $130,000 ($75,000 for assault under strangulation, $15,000 for assault under 12 and $40,000 second degree kidnapping).

Jenkins is charged with assault by strangulation, assault inflicting serious injury in the presence of a minor, assault inflicting serious injury in the presence of a minor, assault on child under 12 and interfering with emergency communications. 

According to Lt. Kip Gaskins with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a home in Grimesland around 6:15 p.m. Sunday in response to a domestic disturbance. Later that night, warrants were issued for Curtis' arrest. 

Earlier this month, he and his brother John Aaron Matthew Jenkins were accused of assaulting a 51 year old man. 

His next court date is Dec. 13.
