JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County - A donation drive supporting those who served our country is underway in Onslow County, aiming to help veterans who are down on their luck.
The annual Angels for Veterans donation drive is kicking off at the NC Works Career Center off of Western Blvd.
Organizers for the drive told NewsChannel 12 reporters that the need is big and the need is now. As temperatures continue to dip, many homeless veterans are feeling the sting -- some lacking basic essentials like personal hygiene items, sweat shirts and socks.
Last year, the Angels for Veterans drive helped over 100 veterans in Onslow County and this year, they aim to help more.
"If we can help one individual get back on track, we've done our job," Disabled Veterans Outreach Specialist Reginald Roy said. "We can't always do it for everybody, but being able to help that one individual that comes in and wants that help -- we've accomplished something."
Roy said that no donated items will be turned away. Angels for Veterans will find a use for everything that comes in.
If you or someone you know would like to help out, you can donate items to the NC Works Career Center in Onslow County at 461 Western Blvd., Suite 106 in Jacksonville. You can also call (910) 347-2121 for more information.
