BOARDMAN, N.C. - A Jacksonville assistant principal died in an accident that happened over the weekend.
Troopers said Debra Hardin, 57, failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 74 and Old Boardman Road in Boardman, N.C. The crash happened at about 5:20 p.m. Sunday.
Hardin was the assistant principal at Meadowview Elementary School. She served in that position for three years. She started her teaching career at Jacksonville Commons Elementary where she taught for 15 years.
"She loved her job and she loved her teachers," Hardin's husband, Tony, said. "She was the greatest teacher advocate I've ever seen in a school administrator."
Troopers said Hardin pulled out in front of oncoming traffic. Another car smashed into the driver side of Hardin's vehicle. Troopers said Hardin was pronounced dead at the scene.
