Inmate who escaped custody on Friday has been captured

JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County - Daniel Walter England III, the inmate who escaped Jacksonville Police custody on Friday has been captured.

NewsChannel 12's Greg Payne reports England was captured at Rivers Edge Court in the Rhodestown area in Jacksonville. Deputies with the Onslow County Sheriff's Office took him into custody at around 7 p.m. England escaped custody while being transported to a doctor's appointment.

"I noticed a bunch of flashlights poking around the backyard and then even shorter after that I heard the police yelling at a man to get down on the ground," said Wesley Georgi.

Little did Georgi know the man being apprehended in his backyard was a convict on the loose.

"Since this happened just a short time ago, I was looking on the news to figure out what it could have been and I mean one of the stories that came up was this escaped convict," Georgi said.

Jacksonville Police and Onslow County Sheriff's Office are currently on the hunt for an escaped inmate.

Daniel Walter England III, 35, was being transported from the Onslow County Detention Center for a doctors appointment when he escaped on Friday. Police do not believe he is armed.

Friday night, police were in an area near Stephenson Toyota. NewsChannel 12's Greg Payne reports police cars and a helicopter were seen overhead.

England is said to be in the area of Country Club & Piney Green. He was last seen running across a golf course in the area. Around 11:00 a.m., officials began to move from searching the golf course to an area near Piney Green.

Sometime around 12:40 p.m., the Sheriff's office began flying a drone over the area. They were set up on Country Club Drive. 

England is white, about 5', 6" with brown hair, an official said. He was last seen wearing an orange jail jumpsuit.

England was jailed on charges of breaking and entering on September 1 relating to an August 28 incident. He is awaiting trial for multiple felony charges, including larceny and manufacturing methamphetamine.  His bond was set at $160,000.

Seven Onslow County public schools are on a precautionary lockdown due to the search, Onslow County Schools spokesperson Suzie Ulbrich said.

Parents were first notified of the lockdown via an all-call system used by the district.

Hunters Creek Elementary School, Hunters Creek Middle School, White Oak High School, Jacksonville Commons Elementary School, Jacksonville Commons Middle School, Northside High School and Morton Elementary School are all affected.

Ulbrich said the lifting of the lockdown will be determined by when police agencies give the all clear.

Officials received a call for assistance with this incident around 8:10 a.m. K-9's are now out on scene along with the Sheriff's Office and police.

If you see England, officials said do not approach him -- immediately call 911.
