Jacksonville man in custody after another man shot, transported to hospital

JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County - A Jacksonville man has been taken into custody after another man was found shot in the 100 block of Annie Avenue.

Police said Michael Kevin Jackson, 39, of Jacksonville was taken into custody at around 5 p.m. Monday. Police were responding to a call of a shooting at around 2 p.m. in the area of Annie Avenue. When they arrived, they found a 41-year-old male shot. He was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for medical care. His status is currently unknown.

The preliminary investigation by police shows a black male shot at another person in a vehicle then fled on foot, Captain Ashley Weaver, JPD Investigative Services Supervisor said. Officers quickly established a perimeter and canvassed the area.

Jackson was then taken into custody.

"The outstanding teamwork across the Patrol, Investigative and Special Operations Divisions resulted in taking Michael Kevin Jackson into custody" Weaver said.

The incident remains under investigation.
