JACKONVILLE, Onslow County - Onslow County officials confirmed early Friday morning that a power line fell and ultimately sparked a fire that destroyed of an abandoned mobile home along Bridget Lane.

Neighbors called 911 and five volunteer fire departments arrived at the scene. The structure went up in flames but the fire was out in about 20 minutes, according to Southwest Volunteer Fire Chief Ray Silance. He reported the mobile home had been abandoned for some time.

There were no injuries reported. Roughly 5,800 customers were without power for several hours Friday morning because of the downed power line. Neighbors that lived down the street from the destroyed home say they heard the line fall around 4 am.

"I was up feeding my littlest baby and I heard what almost sounded like shot gun fire outside my bedroom window and there was like a flash and the whole house just went completely black," said Nikita Long.

Duke Energy workers that were on the scene restoring the power line say it is still unclear what caused the line to fall in the first place. All Duke energy customers that were affected how their power back on by around noon.
