NEW BERN, Craven County - A wreck at the intersection of M L King Jr Blvd and Simmons St involved a Carolina East ambulance as well as a citizen's vehicle, officals confirm.
During the crash, the citizen's vehicle took out a utlity pole, which caused a string of traffic lights to be brought down. After an investigation, the citizen driver was cited for a traffic violation related to the accident.
Due to having to replace a utility pole and having only flashing traffic lights available, the traffic pattern on M L King Jr Blvd and Simmons St has been modified.
There is currently no ETA on when the pole will be replaced and the lights will resume normal function.
"Drivers are reminded to pay attention when approaching intersections and to always yield to emergency vehicles who are operating with emergency lights and sirens," officials said in a press release.
