OCRACOKE, Hyde County - Tideland EMC confirmed all three of the individual transmission cables buried on the south side of the Bonner Bridge have been damaged. On Saturday, only one cable was identified as damaged. Cape Hatteras Electric
Cooperative ran tests on integrity of the other two cables Saturday night and the testing data was analyzed overnight. The test revealed all three of the cables have been compromised.
Tideland EMC says the CHEC has called in additional resources to further assess the situation. They have both a temporary and a permanent solution.
A construction crew from PCL construction accidentally drove a steel casing into the CHEC's underground transmission cable on the Bonner bridge Thursday morning. That is what caused the outage. The Bridge carries highway 12 over the Oregon Inlet.
