Snow Hill resident seeks to breathe life into shuttered restaurant

SNOW HILL, Greene County - A Snow Hill resident is taking a piece of her past and making it her future.

A building left vacant after Hurricane Matthew was once a pizza parlor named Aggie's where Crystal Ford worked when she was in high school. After buying the property on Greene Street in downtown, she has plans to turn it into a restaurant of her own.

"I've always said, 'If I had a restaurant, I'd do this, if I had a restaurant, I'd do that,'" Ford said. "I want it to be more of a community thing (where) people feel comfortable coming in... feel like they are getting a good deal, good food and want to come back."

Melissa Lopergolo owns the shop next to what was Aggie's and says the decision by the former owners not to re-open after the hurricane was tough for other nearby businesses.

"We are very excited - it'll be new life down here to this street," she said.

With the help of friends and neighbors that are already working to restore the old building, Ford hopes to have her new diner open within a few months.

If you'd like to help with the cause, you can go to Ford's GoFundMe page.
