KENANSVILLE, Duplin County - James Sprunt Community College is offering free tuition to eligible Duplin County high school students through the Presidential Scholarship Program.

James Sprunt Community College is excited to announce it will begin offering free tuition to eligible Duplin County high school students through the Presidential Scholarship Program, starting with its first class of Presidential Scholars this fall.
The program was started with the hope of removing financial barriers, so that students who choose to further their education, could do so without worry of debt.
"James Sprunt is delighted to offer 2-years of education at no cost to the eligible students of Duplin County," said Dr. Lawrence Rouse, president of James Sprunt Community College. "It is a step towards ensuring future generations are competitive in the global marketplace of the 21st century. Students will be able to graduate from James Sprunt without debt, become productive citizens, and hopefully one day be in a position to give back to the community."
"It is a just a great opportunity for Duplin County high school students," added Brian Jones, associate vice president of student services. "Graduating high school seniors who have already started the Career and College Promise program can complete their course credits at James Sprunt for free."
To be eligible, students must be a graduating high school senior in Duplin County with a 3.0 unweighted GPA at the time of graduation. Students must complete three James Sprunt classes through the North Carolina Career and College Promise Initiative, and must complete all financial aid forms, including the FAFSA and other necessary documents. Students must also complete an application, which will be available for potential candidates in Spring 2018.
The program will be available to high school students throughout Duplin County, including those who may be homeschooled or attend a private school.
