NEW BERN, Craven County - For the second year in a row, Greenleaf Memorial Park hosted a Veterans Day memorial ceremony.
"This is not for us," says John Macomber. "This is for the veterans and their families."
A first glance at Macomber tells you he is a veteran himself and that's because he is.
He fought as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division in Vietnam.
But its memorials like these that he says aren't about him.
They're about everyone else.
"Not just these veterans that are in this cemetery but every veteran that there is," says Macomber.
John Jenso, who fought in the Korean War, also attended the ceremony for the second time.
He says even though the Korean War is often forgotten and he wishes Korea veterans got more respect, he's still proud of his time in the service.
"I'm proud that I served. If I had to I'd do it all over again," says Jenso.
Both men agree services like this are important to remember the men and women who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
