NEW BERN, Craven County - New Bern Police announced the arrest Friday of a New Bern High School student for making threats of mass violence against the school.

Antonio Samuel Blount, 18, was charged with felony false report, act of violence to occur on educational property. He was booked into the Craven County Jail on a $1,500 secured bond, and had his first appearance in Craven County District Court on Thursday.

Judicial District 3B District Attorney Scott Thomas tells NewsChannel 12's Nicole Griffin that Blount is accused of making bomb and shooting threats on social media accounts that were tied back to him.

A statement was released by Craven County Schools on Friday about the incident:

"Craven County Schools appreciates the work of the New Bern Police Department in addressing this incident at New Bern High School. It is our top priority to ensure the safety of our students so they can focus on their education. We encourage all parents and students to continue to communicate with school officials when they have concerns regarding perceived threatening behavior."
