Police search for suspects in New Bern shooting and robbery

NEW BERN, Craven County - Police are actively searching for the suspects involved in a late night shooting and robbery in New Bern.

On November 5, 2017, at approximately 8:40 p.m. officers responded to the area of Copperfield Apartments in reference to gunshots. Officials determined that a robbery had occurred.

According to officials with the New Bern Police Department, two males forced their way into an apartment armed with handguns. Once inside the residence, they demanded money.

Gregory Alexander Williams, the resident, was shot multiple times after a struggle ensued. 

The suspects were described to police as black males, one wearing a green sweatshirt with a black bandana across his face. The second suspect was tall and wearing a black hoodie, dark jeans and a white face covering.

The suspects fled the scene -- possibly in a dark four-door sedan.

Williams was transported to CarolinaEast Medical Center and was eventually transferred to Vidant Medical Center.

Officials said that the investigation indicates this was a targeted event and the public is not in any immediate danger.
