NEW BERN, Craven County - Pepsi celebrated founder Caleb Bradham's 150th Birthday on Wednesday. Bradham was born on May 27, 1867.
Pepsi was founded in 1898 in Historical Downtown New Bern. Downtown New Bern was decorated with Pepsi banners and a number of people were in the area to check out the sites, including the Pepsi museum.
A shareholders meeting was also held Wednesday. Although only shareholders are invited inside the meeting, everyone was able to view Caleb Bradham's original recipe book at the Birth Place of Pepsi on Middle Street.
In the press release about the meeting, the National Center for Public Policy's Free Enterprise Project sent its director to lobby the beverage giant on rebuffing "leftist attacks."
In a press release, the FEP says it is urging Pepsi CEO Indra Nooyi to reaffirm her position on President Donald Trump's advisory panel, in the wake of the company's decision to pull a "tone-deaf" social commentary style advertisement featuring Kendal Jenner earlier this year.
"Following the election of Donald Trump, anti-speech activists have come out of the woodwork to demand corporate leaders not work with the President under any circumstances," National Center General Counsel and FEP Director Justin Danhof said in a press release. "With those elements now apparently targeting Pepsi CEO Indra Nooyi for her service on President Trump's Strategic and Policy Forum, we encourage her to stand strong against ideological groupthink."
This is the fourth time the FEP has participated in the annual shareholder meeting.
