NEW BERN, Craven County - A new food pantry had an official launch last weekend for residents who need the service.
The Feed Craven County Pantry officially launched this weekend. It's inside the Church at New Bern building on Hwy. 70 in James City. The group actually began giving away food two months ago but didn't have its official launch party until Saturday.
The pantry is open twice a month, every second and fourth Friday, starting at 5:30 p.m. No ID, proof of income or household size is required. You don't have to just live in Craven County and you can also shop for clothing and other select items that are donated.
"We walk them around with a cart and let them fill up the cart themselves and we actually encourage them to get more, as much as they need," said Jackie Nowarah of Feed Craven.
Feed Craven is one in a network of food banks tied to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. To find out how you can donate or volunteer, you can contact Feed Craven at (252) 349-0787 or visit their Facebook page.
