HAVELOCK, Craven County - A Craven County mom is thanking everyone who helped her family raise money to get her daughter a life-saving seizure alert dog.
We first told you about Viangie Martinez and her daughter, Liangie, after the 9-year-old suddenly fell ill and began having uncontrollable seizures two years ago. Doctors at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville diagnosed her with Encephalitis, which is the swelling of the brain.
Liangie can still get seizures at any time of the day, meaning someone always has to watch her. Her parents began raising money two years ago to purchase a seizure alert dog. The dog is able to sense when a seizure is coming on and alert her parents. Martinez said the dog, which they named Zeus, is giving her family the sigh of relief they have been waiting for a while now.
"She is so happy, I'm so happy, everyone is so happy, everyone is happy. I was so excited when I got the dog I just wanted to jump, I cried a lot really, because it took me like two years," Martinez said.
She said her family is thanking everyone that helped make this possible.
