CHOCOWINITY, Beaufort County - A Chocowinity man was arrested Sept. 21 on multiple drug charges after he was found sleeping in his truck.

On September 21, 2017 at about 6:30 am Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle parked near one of the boat storage yards in the Cypress Landing Community in Chocowinity. When Deputies arrived they discovered Jason David Tolley, age 31, of Chocowinity, sleeping in his truck. During further investigation into why Tolley was there, Deputies located several pieces of jewelry and mail belonging to a resident of Cypress Landing in his truck. Deputies also found cocaine and arrested Tolley for Felony Possession of Cocaine.
During an almost month long investigation into the jewelry and mail located in Tolley's truck, Sheriff's Investigators discovered Tolley, a convicted felon, had been pawning stolen jewelry in Beaufort, Pitt and Craven counties since April of 2017. After tracing the jewelry back to its rightful owners and interviewing other residents of Cypress Landing, Investigators discovered Tolley had also used one of the victim's credit cards and stolen at least one firearm.
Based on evidence collected and the interviews conducted in this case, Beaufort County Sheriff's Investigators have charged Jason David Tolley with 7 counts of Felony Breaking and Entering, 7 counts of Felony Larceny After Breaking and Entering, 1 count of Larceny of a Firearm, 1 count of Safecracking, 1 count of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, 1 count of Financial Card Theft, 1 count of Identity Theft, and 5 counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretense. Tolley is currently being held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $165,000.00 secured bond. He is also facing multiple felony charges in both Pitt and Craven counties.
