New Bern native Ron Pontif has been working for over 10 years to perfect his invention the Safe-T-Stool. The stool has been engineered around safety. It is lightweight and can hold 500 pounds of force anywhere on the stool.

"Kids don't always stand on the center of the stool. So we wanted to make it so it would never tip." says Pontiff.

Children inspired the idea for the Safe-T-Stool. Pontiff says when the two-year-old daughter of a family friend fell while on a stool brushing her teeth in the bathroom.

"And she came crashing down on the sink and they had to take her to the hospital and I thought, why don't they make a stool that doesn't flip over." says Pontiff.

That is when the Safe-T-Stool was born.

Pontiff has always been inventing. He has over 200 ideas stacked on a counter in his kitchen. He holds eleven patents, but the Safe-T-Stool has been the most successful.

On January 17th, Pontiff will fly out to Pennsylvania to be on the national shopping network QVC. He says a company he works with in Ohio approached the shopping network with several ideas, but they only picked the Safe-T-Stool to feature.

"We are very excited. It's been a long time coming, so.  A lot of people locally know about the Safe-T-Stool, but QVC is pretty much going to put us on the map." says Pontiff.

Pontiff says the national roll-out of his invention may have happened a lot sooner if he didn't insist on keeping his products American made. He says national inventor Kevin Harrington (seen on the TV show Shark Tank) originally approached him with an offer. Pontiff says Harrington wanted to make the stools in China to make a bigger profit so he turned him down.

"And  that's what differentiates us from everyone else on the market. Everyone wants to see how cheap they can make a stool, where as we want to see how safe we can make it." says Pontiff.

The stools are available now online, and Pontiff says any orders in the near future will be shipped by Christmas. To order a Safe-T-Stool, or for more information, click here.
