CAMP LEJEUNE, ONSLOW COUNTY - Camp Lejeune has announced that LL Cool J will headline the annual July 4th celebration aboard the base.
The popular hip hop artist and actor will take the stage between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on W.P.T. Hill Field at Camp Lejeune. His performance will also feature D.J. Z-Trip.
"We are excited to have LL CooL J come to Camp Lejeune and entertain our service members and their families," said Deputy Operations Officer Yolanda Mayo at Camp Lejeune. "It has been several years since an act of this caliber has come to Camp Lejeune to perform. We are always looking for these types of acts. This is a performance that people will not forget."
LL Cool J is a two-time Grammy Award-winner and the first rap artist to amass 10 consecutive platinum-plus selling albums. He also stars in NCIS: Los Angeles and has been in more than 30 films.
Camp Lejeune's 4th of July Celebration is free and open to the public, but no pets will be allowed on the field. Gates will open at 4 p.m.
Those without base privileges must enter at the main gate. Have valid identification, registration and insurance ready.
Due to the expected large crowds, base officials encourage people to carpool and arrive early. Security checkpoints will be at the entrance to the field and bags (including backpacks and purses) will be searched, base officials said.
In addition to LL Cool J., the 2D Marine Division Rock Band will perform at 5:30 p.m., followed by Mike Corrado at 7 p.m.
