Lejeune Marine accused of breaking 2-month-old daughter's bones
A Camp Lejeune Marine has been charged for allegedly assaulting his 2-month-old daughter, including fracturing her elbow, foot and ribs.
According to the Onslow County Sheriff's Office, 24-year-old Adam Kenneth Patten, of Highway 172 in Hubert, was arrested on Thursday.
He was taken into custody by a First Sergeant on base at Camp Lejeune and booked at the Onslow County Jail.
Between Sept. 29 and Oct. 19, Patten seriously injured his biological 2-month-old daughter on four occasions, investigators said. Patten allegedly fractured his baby's elbow and foot while taking her out of a car seat. The suspect also injured his daughter's feet and leg while changing her diaper, and fractured her ribs because he squeezed her too hard, said deputies.
Next door neighbor, Shalane Sato, said Patten and his wife are quiet people that keep to themselves.
"I've seen them outside talking. They don't yell at each other. I think, if they have had any arguments they talk quietly amongst themselves, but I have never heard any yelling," Sato said.
Sato said she never expected Patten to be accused of hurting his daughter.
Tony Boss, a neighbor with a one-month-old baby, said its hard to believe a Marine could do this.
"They're supposed to protect people. Their own child injuring them? I just can't imagine it," Boss said.
Patten has been charged with four counts of felony child abuse inflicting serious physical injury. His first court appearance was Friday morning.
Patten is now out of jail. The condition of his baby has not been released.
