The City of New Bern will be holding a wreath laying ceremony Wednesday to remember New Bern Police Officer Alexander Thalmann, instead of the previously scheduled community vigil at Union Point Park.
City spokesperson Colleen Roberts sent out the information at 9:14 p.m. Tuesday that the vigil had been changed to a wreath presentation. New Bern's Mayor and Board of Aldermen decided to present a memorial wreath to New Bern Police Chief Toussaint Summers and the New Bern Police Department at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to honor fallen officer Alexander E. Thalmann. The ceremony will take place at New Bern Police Department Headquarters located at 601 George Street.
Additionally, a memorial fund has been set up for Officer Thalmann's family to help with funeral expenses. The Officer Alexander Thalmann Memorial Fund has been created at First Citizens Bank. Those wishing to make donations may go to any First Citizens Bank location in Craven, Pamlico, Pitt, Carteret and Beaufort counties.
