Last beam raised for new terminal at Albert J. Ellis Airport

RICHLANDS, ONSLOW COUNTY - A vital multimillion-dollar investment for growth is coming to life in Onslow County. Albert J. Ellis Airport is building a new passenger terminal building.

On Thursday, a ceremony was held to celebrate the final beam to be installed in the structure.

The 67,000-square-foot terminal will be two stories with three gates, and will replace the current terminal. It will serve up to four aircraft through three state-of-the-art enclosed passenger boarding bridges.

Those who attended the ceremony left their mark on the last beam to be installed.

"This is something we've been needing for a long time in Onslow County and I think it's really a big step for Onslow County and it really shows a lot of progress," said Airport Advisory Board member Larry Johnson.

The project cost $39,962,606.

THE FAA awarded $30,412,267 in grant money for the project, followed by $ 9,206,479 in local airport funding, contract facility charges and passenger facility funds. The final $343,860 was awarded in state grants.
