KINSTON, LENOIR COUNTY -

Kwanzaa kicked off Thursday, and people in Eastern Carolina are gearing up to celebrate the seven day cultural holiday.

The True Worship Outreach Center in Kinston invites everyone to come and join them for their third Kwanzaa celebration.  The holiday is meant to honor African American heritage and culture, but organizers say it's more than that.

"It's about unity.  It's an African American celebration, but the principles are for everyone in the world," says organizer Johnny Noel.

The center says everyone is welcome, and you can stop by on Friday and again on January first starting at 3 p.m.  There will be food, music and entertainment.
