Police have identified the man shot and killed early Friday morning in Lenoir County.

According to investigators, 30-year-old Robert Dennis Pridgen, Jr., of West Road, was found dead behind the wheel of a Lexus on the 1800 block of Cedar Lane in Kinston. The victim was shot several times in the upper body, police said.

Police said they got the call of the shooting at about 12:50 a.m. Friday.

According to residents, the neighborhood is usually pretty quiet. Many of them said they had no idea that Pridgen had been killed just down the road.

"It's a shock that something this close to my neighborhood would happen like this," said Pamela Freeland, who recently moved her family to the area. "[It's] scary because of my kids, and just being that close to somebody actually getting murdered."

NewsChannel 12 went to the home where friends said Pridgen was living. Nobody there wished to comment.

No arrest has been made in the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call Kinston Police at (252) 939-3220.
