Growing up in Kentucky, Katie says her father thought she would be a lawyer and her mother thought she'd would be a writer. Katie says she pretty much combined the two and decided to become a journalist. Katie says she loves digging for facts and keeping viewers informed.
"There is no greater rush than chasing down a story," she said.
Katie graduated summa cum laude from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Electronic Media and a minor in Business. While in college she served as an intern under Peabody and Emmy award winning investigative journalist Laure Quinlivan. She also interned for WKRC-TV in Cincinnati during her junior and senior years. She also found the time to anchor and report for Uptown News, the college news station at UC and be the first multimedia journalist for The News Record. At the end of her junior year, the Electronic Media Department awarded Katie the Fredric R. Ziv Award which gave her a chance to spend three months in New York City interning for "Guiding Light."
After graduation, Katie began her career in news as a reporter at WHIZ in Zanesville, Ohio. While she was born and raised in Kentucky, she says she is excited to now call herself a Carolina girl! Go ECU Pirates!
When she's not chasing down the story, Katie says she loves a good run at the gym, lounging by the pool or spending an afternoon with friends. There is nothing she loves more than meeting new people, so if you have a story tip or just want to say hi, please shoot her an e-mail!
