Pitt County School officials confirm that new interim J.H. Rose High School football coach Dave Wojtecki has been suspended for five days. He will return to work Monday, August 5.
Wojtecki's suspension has been linked to the above picture painted on the weight room wall at the school. We have covered up the two letters that some say form an acronym for a vulgar phrase aimed toward rival school, D.H. Conley. The suspension comes at the same time school officials are confirming this sign has been removed from the wall.
The district sent this statement about the suspension: "Earlier this week, school system officials were made aware of an incident at J.H. Rose High School that does not reflect the sportsmanship and respect that all coaches, players, and fans are expected to display in Pitt County athletics. District leaders contacted administrators at the school, and the school's administration handled all discipline related to the matter. We are confident that everyone involved understands the reasons for the discipline, and we will all move forward with a successful fall sports season."
Wojtecki was named interim head coach after Todd Lipe, the former head coach, was suspended amid the fallout over star player Maleek Gorham's transfer to D.H. Conley High School from J.H. Rose and the eligibility issues that stemmed from that move.
