A man sentenced to at least 400 years in prison for a series of rapes in Jacksonville is now accused of using a razor to assault an inmate.
Willie Abner Brown, 34, was found guilty Friday on all 33 counts against him for raping and assaulting four women between July 2011 and September 2012 in Jacksonville. Two of the victims were four and eight months pregnant at the time.
The Onslow County Sheriff's Office said Monday that while Brown was being held in the Onslow County Detention during his trial, he told the other inmates that he was being tried for murder.
But when the other inmates later learned that Brown had lied and was actually on trial for rape, friction began to develop between them, investigators said.
Brown later taunted one inmate and challenged that inmate to a fight, according to the Sheriff's Office. But when the inmate proved to be too much for Brown to handle, Brown used a shaving razor blade to assault that inmate, said investigators.
Brown was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon in prison and disorderly conduct by fighting. But District Attorney Ernie Lee said that since Brown will already be spending the rest of his life in prison, it is in the best interest of the Justice System to dismiss the new charges against him.
A Jacksonville man convicted on all counts for raping and assaulting four women will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
The judge sentenced 34-year-old Willie Abner Brown just before 5:30 p.m. Friday to a minimum of 400 years in prison.
Earlier Friday, the jury announced that Brown is guilty on all 33 counts against him, including six counts of first-degree rape, first and second-degree kidnapping, first-degree sexual offense, robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony breaking and entering, and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
According to police, Brown broke into the Jacksonville homes of four women between July 2011 and September 2012. Brown raped three of those women and assaulted one, said investigators. Two of the victims were four and eight months pregnant at the time.
Investigators said the first attack happened on July 1, 2011. The victim in that incident, a Marine wife, said she was home with her baby son while her husband was deployed. She testified that a man wearing a ski mask appeared in her home, demanding money, and threatening to snap her baby boy's neck.
The victim testified she was raped several times by the man, who used makeshift condoms comprised of medical tape, plastic wrap and a Ziplock bag. The victim said her attacker made her shower to remove the evidence. Then, while leaving her baby son at home, she was forced to drive the man to an ATM to withdraw $600, the victim testified.
The second attack happened on May 2012, said investigators. The victim was four months pregnant at the time. Investigators said Brown broke into her home and used her husband's knife to threaten her. Brown then raped her and stole her husband's Airsoft gun, prosecutors said.
The third and fourth victims were both attacked on Sept. 11, 2012, said investigators.
According to prosecutors, Brown first broke into a woman's home and beat her with the previously stolen Airsoft gun. But that woman was able to escape without being raped. Brown then stole her credit cards, investigators said.
Surveillance cameras later caught Brown using the stolen credit cards at several stores.
Afterwards, Brown went to the fourth victim's home and broke in, said investigators. The victim was 19 years old and eight months pregnant at the time. She testified that Brown raped her, beat her with the Airsoft gun, tied her up, and raped her again.
DNA found on the Airsoft gun were a match to the third and fourth victim, according to prosecutors.
Jurors listened to the last testimony of one of the alleged rape victims in the trial for Willie Abner Brown.
Willie Abner Brown, 34 of Jacksonville, has been charged with 25 counts related to a string of rapes and burglaries that happened in Jacksonville between July 2011 and September 2012, police said.
The alleged victim -- a Marine wife who NewsChannel 12 won't identify -- shared the alarming story of her attack Tuesday morning.
It happened overnight on July 1, 2011. This woman says she was home with her baby son while her husband was deployed. She testified that a man in a ski mask and all black appeared in her home, demanding money and threatening her baby boy.
The alleged victim says he forced her to have sex using makeshift condoms out of medical tape, plastic wrap and a Ziplock bag. She says her attacker made her shower off to remove the evidence. Then, leaving her son at home, she was forced to drive him to an ATM and withdraw money.
